do you know where your towel is?

packed up stash by gradschoolknitter
packed up stash, a photo by gradschoolknitter on Flickr.

A little while ago I might have alluded to an announcement... so here it is: we're moving! Things at chez gradschoolknitter have been a little hectic lately, we got the news that DH got a new job in a new state right before we left for Iceland, and since we've been back it's been pack pack packing time. Above is the entirety of my stash, in 2 pillow-sized bags. The only things missing are things that I'm working on and/or about to cast on for: my stripe study shawl and a pair of milo's for DH as well as enough yarn for this sweater, requested by DH.

I'm shocked, honestly, that this is all there is. And you might notice that in the lefthand bag there is also an almost-full bag of fiber fill and a tote from my time with the MadridKnits girls. In the righthand bag there is the leftover sock yarn blanket (which has moved as a UFO with me more times than I care to admit) and a crocheted bag full of the leftovers still to be used for said project.

As we all know, moving time means decluttering time and I have decided to hold a little giveaway to clean out my knitting related goodies. Just leave a comment on this post—you can just say hi! or tell me how impressed you are with how small my stash is or... whatever you like, really—and on June 30th I'll close the comments and pick a person at random. What will said random person get? Good question.

give away

The package will consist of a knitty gritty tote bag, a ton of beads—some enameled, some rose quartz—and a culinary colors kit by Knit One, Crochet Too. What is a culinary colors kit, you ask? Well, it's to dye your own shawl or scarf, so it comes with 450 yards of lace weight "Douceur et Soie" (70% baby mohair/30% silk) 3 bottles of dye and instructions for a shawl and a scarf. The dye colors are "Fruit Sorbet", which translates to pink orange and yellow.

OK, comment away!

I am definitely surprised by your small stash. I don't know why but for some reason I always think of knitters as having oversized stashes. Good luck with the move!

I too am impressed with your small stash. I have been sorting through my stash and recently gave away a big bag of wool to a local charity. I feel happier knowing that someone will knit it up into useful things to keep people warm this winter. I first found you blog through your iceland photos, which were great.

I like your small stash. I feel like I'm loosing control over mine :(

So I'm not sure if I should comment or not since it might mean more yarn?!

Good luck for the move though!

So jealous of your small stash! That's what I aspire to. I also have a moving tip to share from our last big move: use sheets of address labels and your printer to make easy labels for boxes. We made ones that said "dining room," "office," "bedroom" etc. It was fast to just stick them on and then friends and some hired movers helping could easily tell where each box should go when we were unloading. Good luck with the move!

I can't believe how small your stash is. My age, my debt, my waistline and my stash... all such low numbers when I went to bed that night so long ago, but when I woke up the next morning they had all tripled, at least. Congrats to DH for the new job, and hope you love your new home.

Wow! Good luck on your move! I would be in real trouble if I had to move my statsh! Of course I hope to never move again...with 33 + moves by the time I was in my 20's (step dad's job with Boeing...)my main goal is to be in this house for the rest of my life!!

I'm very impressed by your small stash. When I moved, it took many, many more bags!

Your stash in two bags made me think about how many I would need. Then I quickly got overwhelmed and stopped thinking about it. Considering the bed in my spare bedroom is currently covered in about 4 sheep fleeces that need processed...

Good lick with your move. I'm really impressed with the size of your stash; it's so manageable! Thank you so much for your management of the International Sock Swap group and for the giveaway opportunity.

Good luck on your move! and dont be like me- I was still unpacking after two years of settling in. When I needed a particular item I would go on a hunting frenzy - thats when a box would get emptied. But moving is fun ...meeting new folks sharing ideas and all that stuff!

Anyway, I WANT TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!! (is this subtle enough)

That's the entirety of your stash? I applaud your self-restraint and discipline. I would be more than a little embarrassed to post pictures (emphasis on the word PICTURES) of my stash. Love your projects!

PS- I am SOOOO Surprised by your STASH! Good job Erin! I have quite a few knitting buddies who do not have a stash! They work on three projects or so at a time, finish then buy yarn for the next projects they want. I wish I could be so organized! My stash has now begun to take over my drawing studio! Haha :) Congrats again!
