Etsy = gooooood

If you don't already know about Etsy then you should just click here and go right now! Go! Right now!!

If you do know about Etsy then stick around, check out my loot and then go shop!

A blog that I read fairly regularly (Sock Pr0n, aka the genius behind the space invader socks) has a regular "feature" called Etsy Friday. I have always been a huge fan of etsy and a lot of the stuff therein, but I hadn't purchased a whole lot of it, until now. So, since knitting has been somewhat slow (except for the several hours I spent on standby in the Detroit airport Sunday... but that's a whole other story), I'm going to share other people's beautiful handmade stuff!

The Hot Pink Bicycle Tee by Vital Industries

Shoe 1

and Shoe 2 of Pink Shoe Earrings by Renee Designs

Black and White Goldfish Dress by Circular Accessories (this picture does not do the dress justice. I suck at taking pictures of myself. But I do love, love, love this dress.

And the best for last....

FRANKENDEER!! by Horrible Adorables. I love him. I mean, seriously, look at him! Ok, so I'm 26 and I haven't bought myself a stuffed animal in... forever, but he was just too cute and funny to pass up. Even Dr. BF said he was pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Non-etsy, but equally cool:

The sheep teapot I won from K8. It's too cute and it pours a good cup 'o tea!

Stitch Markers, which I believe were made by the same K8 and are so cute. I'm looking forward to using these! Thanks Kate!

I ordered a couple more things that are yet to arrive from various sellers on Etsy... so look for that in the coming days! And knitting content... I promise, there will be knitting content!

sloggin' and froggin'

Whew! Long time no post. I'm going back state-side in 3 days so I've been trying to spend time with family and friends and haven't done a whole lot of knitting. But I decided last week that I had to finish Dr. BF's vest (finally!). The hood didn't turn out exactly as planned however, so I'm trying to figure out how to fix it (other than ripping it back again. It was one of my summer goals to finish this up and I didn't want to move it with me again. Ever since one of the Mason Dixon ladies started the Slogalong I've seen others who have decided to try and give some old projects new life. Even the Yarn Harlot. So for my slogging effort, I finished the vest yesterday. I'm also frogging a pair of lace-weight monkey socks... they just weren't working.

Here it is lying flat:

And here it is on me (so you can see the hood problems):

An FYI for the Mac users out there. If you're thinking of upgrading to the new iPhoto, it looks cool and it's easier to manipulate photos but be forewarned: when you import the photos directly there from your camera it adds them to an iPhoto Library file which you can only view inside of iPhoto and use their programs and iMac to send emails / publish on the web. You have to export each file in order to send emails through a webmail program or publish through blogger. Very protectionist.

off the yarn

I haven't been doing much knitting as of late... at least nothing significant enough to document. A few rows here and there on different projects but nothing seems to be progressing.

Anywho, I'm leaving the contest (see two posts below this one) open for the rest of today and then I will announce the winners tomorrow morning! Good luck!

100th Post Contest!

OK, so I wanted to have the prizes ready to show before I posted this, but I just haven't found the time in the last couple of days to get them together. I plan on getting them tomorrow and I'll post them then.

All you have to do is this: Leave a comment on this post explaining what your favourite knit or yarn has been. If you post this on your blog and let me know the link you'll get another entry. If you're referred here by someone let me know and they'll get another entry. After a week I will use a random number generator to pick 3 winners.

That's it! Good luck, I'll post the results after next Wednesday!

and now back to our regularly scheduled knitting

I didn't make the deadline on Friday for the BMP socks, but my brother is aware of them and they were completed this morning:

As you can see, the second toe (on the "HI-SCORE" sock) is white... I actually ended up running out of black yarn (surprising since I had way more yardage in the black than was called for in the pattern... although my bro's feet are probably a lot larger than the designer's...). Other modifications: all black heels and 1st toe, did not add the shooter pattern (I'm not very good at duplicate stitching, especially on such tiny stitches) and the high score reflects the recipient's birthday.

And now the WIPs:

The beginnings of the buttony sweater. I need to get longer circular needles in order to go on, so this is stalled for the moment.

And the honeymoon cami. This would be further along but I didn't like the striping so I ripped back. Plus it's been full time work on the BMP socks, attempting to finish in time.

That's it for now... this is post 99, so look for the 100th post contest in a couple of days!!

Home

We're back from our trip to the cottage, and we had a great time! Some highlights:

Every morning we had a can full of peanuts to feed the chipmunks, who would climb up our pant legs and poke at our fingers until we gave them enough to fill both cheeks (3 avg sized peanuts, usually).

The view from the cottage deck (complete with Dr. BF fishing):
